ARGENTINA: Government prepares for a slowdown

The government sent its budget for 2007 to congress in mid-September. Once again the government is taking a highly cautious view of GDP growth, reckoning that the headline GDP growth figure is likely to be as low as 4%. In August, the economy was still steaming ahead with growth of 9%. In the first half of 2006, GDP growth was 8.3%.
